New Doylestown Historical Society Exhibit Highlights Delaware Valley University s History

About the Exhibit: “The Doylestown Historical Society and Delaware Valley University: 125 Years of Experiential Learning and Doylestown Agriculture, 1896 to 2021” Doylestown has a rich history as an agricultural center. In 1867, Doylestown Agricultural Works was constructed to produce farm machinery and ironwork and was the area’s largest employer for many years. In 1896, Rabbi Joseph Krauskopf, leader of the reform congregation Keneseth Israel in Philadelphia, founded the country’s first farm school, The National Farm School (NFS). He founded NFS with the mission of educating poor boys, who were living in urban slums, to become farmers so they could live a better life. He had a very innovative educational philosophy that he called, “science with practice.” These students would be educated in the science of farming with courses in plant science and animal science, but they would also be taught math, history, and English. The Colorado Hebrew Chorale announces that Miryam (Mimi) Raizen will present another installment of “From Tin Pan Alley Cats to the Great White Way: Jewish Composers of the American Musical” on Sunday, July 11, 2021, 7:30 pm on Zoom. Miryam “Mimi” Raizen In honor of American Independence Day, Mimi will present a special “ 1776” session and will talk about its composer Peter Stone and his career. Besides doing a more significant dive into “ 1776” itself and many of the show’s songs, Miryam will discuss President Nixon’s influence on the film version. She also plans to look at the history of Jews who were involved with the founding fathers and the early federal period, including George Washington’s 1790 letter to the Touro Synagogue in Newport, Rhode Island.

Northeast Times Free museum entrance for veterans The Museum of the American Revolution, 3rd and Chestnut streets, will pay tribute to the men and women who lost their lives in service to the country and celebrate the freedoms they fought to secure for future generations. From Thursday, May 27 to Monday, May 31, veterans, military and Blue Star families will receive free admission, courtesy of Comcast NBCUniversal. Visitors can show their gratitude to service members and their families with a personalized postcard and listen to pop-up talks about the Revolutionary Generation while coming face-to-face with the images of those who survived into the age of photography.
