The southern commute into Cairns just got quicker with the $123.7 million Bruce Highway – Cairns Southern Access Corridor – Stage 4: Kate Street to Aumuller Street (K2A) project now open.
Deputy Prime Minister and Federal Infrastructure Transport and Regional Development Minister Barnaby Joyce said for the first time since August 2018, the barriers and bollards have come down to reveal a new, six-lane stretch of the Bruce Highway between Links Drive (formerly Kate Street) and Aumuller Street.
“The completion of the K2A project is a significant achievement for Far North Queensland,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.

CLEARFIELD A Lock Haven man who fired two shots at state troopers while fleeing arrest pleaded guilty and was sentenced to serve a total 10-20 years in state prison by Judge Paul Cherry this week at Sentencing Court.
Quintin Michael Titus, 26, pleaded guilty to several charges including criminal attempt criminal homicide, felony of the first degree, two counts, and was fined $1 plus costs, and serve a minimum of seven years and a maximum of 14 years in state prison; firearms not to be carried without a license, felony of the third degree, and was fined $1 plus costs, and serve a minimum of three years and a maximum of six years in state prison consecutive to the previous sentence.
