Concerns that the Collegedale commissioners had about accepting the gift of a city park from the McKee Corporation were dispelled with a letter that the donor gave to the city in the past week. In a unanimous vote Monday night, the commissioners authorized the acceptance of the contractual terms related to the Little Debbie Park at The Commons.
The original worry was that maintenance of the park would cost so much that property taxes might have to be raised.

Collegedale commissioners are undecided about accepting the gift of a city park from the McKee corporation. They all agreed that it would be a great park and would add value to the city. However, it also would have the potential of costing Collegedale so much for their part of the agreement and for park maintenance that property taxes would have to be raised, officials said Monday night.
Plans for the park were prepared and negotiated during the past two years by former City Manager Ted Rogers without informing the mayor or members of the commission, the city attorney or anyone from the parks and recreation department, it was stated.

Parks in Wooburn and Bourne End have been shut for safety reasons Parents “concerned for the wellbeing of our children” have begged council officials to reopen village play parks. Nearly 100 parents signed a letter to Wooburn and Bourne End Parish Council saying they were disappointed that playgrounds in the area had been shut because of Covid-19. Parks managed by the parish council have been closed since January 6 in a bid to try and reduce the spread of coronavirus, but not everyone has supported the decision. Amanda Carthy set up a petition to get the parks reopened and in a letter to the council, said: “We believe that the benefits of playgrounds to our local children outweigh the risks of transmission.
