Jason Blum has claimed that the upcoming Blumhouse and Universal project  The Black Phone, which is an adaptation of the horror short story by Joe Hill from director Scott Derrickson ( Sinister,  Doctor Strange), could be Derrickson’s best movie so far. “Is definitely one of the creepiest movies we’ve ever done. Scott thinks it is his best movie. I’m such a fan of Scott’s…I really like all of his movies. I loved Sinister but I will certainly say it is one of his best movies. Maybe the best movie he has ever made,” Blum said in an interview with Collider.

The movie is directed by Scott Derrickson from a screenplay he wrote with longtime collaborator C. Robert Cargill. The movie is based on the award-winning short story of the same title by Joe Hill. “The Black Phone” features Mason Thames in his first film role as Finney Shaw, a shy but clever 13-year-old boy who is abducted by a sadistic killer (Hawke) and trapped in a soundproof basement. When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Shaw learns that he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims.
