Angels Agree To Terms With First-Rounder Sam Bachman

Angels Agree To Terms With First-Rounder Sam Bachman The Angels have agreed to a deal with right-hander Sam Bachman, their top pick in this month’s amateur draft, reports Carlos Collazo of Baseball America (via Twitter). The now-former Miami (Ohio) University hurler will take home a $3,847,500 bonus that checks in more than a million dollars south of the $4,949,100 value of Bachman’s No. 9 overall slot. The 21-year-old Bachman, listed at 6’1″ and 235 pounds, posted ridiculous numbers in his junior season. Through 59 2/3 innings, he pitched to a 1.81 ERA while striking out 41 percent of his opponents against just a 7.5 percent walk rate. He allowed just one home run all season and, in three years of NCAA ball, surrendered just four long balls through a total of 159 innings.

Favorite picks from 2021 MLB Draft

July 15th, 2021 Share share-square-941426 Let’s say this straight from the outset Draft evaluation takes years. More than any other sport with a Draft, baseball requires years of development and positives and negatives can come on the roads between making a pick and the end of a Major League career. That doesn’t completely rule out immediate evaluation, however. As evidenced by MLB Pipeline’s Top 250 Draft prospects, we still have a pretty good idea of who the top talents were heading into this Draft, and that leads to certain picks looking better than others right away. With that in mind, these are our favorite picks of the 2021 Draft, one for every organization:

Angels use all 20 draft picks on pitchers

Angels use all 20 draft picks on pitchers Field Level Media 14 Jul 2021, 10:05 GMT+10 The Los Angeles Angels wrapped up the Major League Baseball draft Tuesday by spending every last one of their 20 draft picks on pitchers. After going with Miami University of Ohio right-hander Sam Bachman with the ninth overall selection in the first round Sunday, the Angels remained single-minded in their pursuit of arms. Nineteen of their 20 picks were on college pitchers; 12th-round selection Mason Albright of the IMG Academy was the only high schooler they chose. On a conference call with reporters, Angels scouting director Matt Swanson said the team hadn t ruled out drafting a position player, but eventually the call was made to play the hot hand and keep loading up on pitchers.
