Perseverance: all you need to know about NASA s new Mars rover

February 19, 2021 at 8:23 am NASA’s Perseverance rover has safely landed on the surface of Mars. The rover touched down in Jezero Crater on the Red Planet at 20:55 UTC on 18 February 2021. Advertisement The successful landing was the culmination of a 203-day journey from Earth that saw it travel a total of 472 million km. The Perseverance Mars rover team look on in Mission Control at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory as the mission’s first images of the Red Planet arrive. LVPAC is presenting a series of National Geographic Live virtual speaker events exploring subjects from life on other planets to new information on dinosaurs to the impact of women s migration around the globe.

Local Livermore Groups to Present National Geographic Virtual Events

Two local groups, Quest Science Center and the Rae Dorough Speaker Series, will join Livermore Valley Performing Arts Center to present a series of National Geographic Live virtual speaker events running from January through April 2021. The six events cover a wide range of topics, from exploring the potential for “Life on Other Worlds” to complex issues surrounding “Women and Migration.” The virtual events combine premium storytelling and visually-stunning imagery in the tradition of the legendary magazine, offering first-hand accounts of science and adventure, as told by world-class explorers who seek to inspire change in the world. Each 60-minute event includes a moderated discussion between two speakers with pre-recorded content interspersed with live conversation, as well as question and answer periods.
