Met Office: Prepare for wetter wet season

With the announcement of a wetter-than-normal 2021 wet season by the Meteorological Service, people are being urged to monitor information from the Met Office and the ODPM to make sure they aren’t caught off guard.
It said there is a new climate normal, as 1981-2010 was the reference for the last ten years. The new reference is the 1991-2020 climate normal representing today’s climate. It said in this new normal, the average rainfall has decreased, but there are an increased number of single-day rainfall events, when the frequency remains steady, and 50 millimetres or more of rain. It said days which come with unusually very heavy rainfall have increased steadily.

Assynt Community Council has welcomed a plan to create a hospitality complex at Lochinver, but concern has been expressed over a lack of parking in the area.
The proposal to create Lochinver Larder and Boathouse â featured in a previous edition of the Northern Times â involves combining the existing Lochinver Larder on the Main Street with next door buildings Ardvar House and the Caberfeidh Pub.
The new visitor destination would offer a pub, restaurant, bistro, cafe, delicatessen counter and bakery as well as a micro-brewery and fish smokehouse. Behind the project are John and Sarah Snyder who bought Lochinver Larder in January last year having previously purchased the Caberfeidh Bar and Ardvar Cottage.

Neighbors concerned following daytime stabbing in Elmwood Village
Police said the stabbing appears to be random.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) â Elmwood Village is known for it s walkability. A couple that moved to the neighborhood two weeks ago, went on a walk Wednesday afternoon to get coffee and sandwiches.
They were near Elmwood and West Ferry at about 2 p.m. when a man walked towards them.
âThe guy just said yo and stabbed my boyfriend in the stomach,â the girlfriend said.
The couple wishes to remain anonymous while police investigate.
The victim s girlfriend said there was no confrontation, or signs the man was violent as he walked towards them.

THE covid19 pandemic has had a devastating effect on the economy, businesses, education and cultural festivities including Carnival and Panorama. It has also brought people together and demonstrated the importance of strength in unity and the resilience of humanity.
In its continuing response to provide assistance to band members, the Northern Region of Pan Trinbago teamed up with the TT Defence Force for the most successful food drive and food distribution in the region’s history, the region said in a media release. The Defence Force responded to a request for assistance by Northern Region chairman Desiree Myers.
