POCOPSON TOWNSHIP, PA A barn fire that destroyed a historic structure along Wawaset Road in Chester County Sunday left the owner burned, four apartment residents unharmed but displaced, two horses dead, and seven horses out in the elements.
The historic stone barn that had apartment units in it burned up in one of several brush fires across Chester County Sunday as high winds and low humidity stoked fires. The barn fire on Wawaset Road was among multiple blazes that fire and emergency crews rushed to throughout the afternoon.

CHESTER COUNTY, PA Crews from five counties battled brush and barn fires across Chester County Sunday, as high winds and low humidity created dangerous conditions, and an alert remained in place for Monday.
Malvern Fire Company had to haul in water tanks to put out a barn and brush fire early Sunday afternoon in Pocopson Township, one of several fires across Chester County yesterday amid red flag conditions perfect for outdoor fires to spread.
Firefighters found smoke spilling from the first floor of the four-story, 33-unit building. The building was searched and evacuated. No injuries were reported.
Fire crews were forced to evacuate the building after smelling a natural gas odor. PECO was called to the scene to address an exposed gas line near the fire.
First responders cleared the scene by 2 a.m Tuesday. At one point, 59 fire crews and speciality units from across the region were on the scene.
