Courtesy of Timmons Group) After weathering the first year of the pandemic, a local engineering firm is getting more elbowroom with two new offices it’s opening along the coast. Timmons Group has added outposts in Newport News and Wilmington, North Carolina. The new locations bring the Richmond firm’s office tally to 18, with a footprint that’s anchored in the Mid-Atlantic but stretches across the country with additional field offices. CEO Brian Bortell said the moves follow existing clients that have expanded to those markets, while also providing relocation and leadership opportunities for employees. ....

But he’s not folding up his drafting table just yet. The founder of Dunlap & Partners Engineers is handing the reins over to a new generation as the firm enters its next iteration as a division of Salas O’Brien, a California-based construction engineering firm that acquired it in December. Two Richmond firms relocating to office space in Scott’s Addition February 23, 2021 Dunlap & Partners Engineers plans to move into The Symbol at 3200 Rockbridge Road in Scott’s Addition by the end of February. ( Jack Jacobs photo) Even as the pandemic has some companies pondering the future of office space, Scott’s Addition is still attracting its share of new tenants. The neighborhood recently welcomed Dunlap & Partners Engineers and Harvie Wealth Managers, by way of Northside and downtown, respectively. Dunlap signed on for a 10,000-square-foot lease at The Symbol building at 3200 Rockbridge Road, and plans to relocate from its current digs at 2112 W. Laburnum Ave. by the end of February. Harvie recently moved into the neighborhood in 2,000 square feet at 3460 W. Clay St. after moving out of the James Center. ....
The Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR) has broken ground to build a 51,250-square-foot Center for Manufacturing Advancement (CMA) on the IALR campus. The innovative CMA will offer a platform for leading-edge business success specifically targeted at manufacturing companies establishing or expanding their presence in Southern Virginia. The $25.5 million project, funded by the commonwealth and the Danville Regional Foundation, is being built in cooperation with Virginiaâs Division of Engineering and Buildings. âSouthern Virginia is a top location for advanced manufacturers from across the globe, and the Center for Manufacturing Advancement will undoubtedly help attract more of them to the region,â Gov. Ralph Northam said. âThis state-of-the-art facility will play an important role in driving economic development and innovation in Virginia, while also helping the existing Danville-Pittsylvania business community grow and thrive.â ....
