On Martin Luther King Jr. Day a year ago, there were few hints of the tumultuous and devastating 12 months that would follow. No one envisioned then that 400,000 Americans would be dead from a disease that has disproportionately affected Black and low-income Americans and ravaged the economy. No one envisioned that the death of a Black man at the hands of police would spur huge protests and a nationwide reckoning with the legacy of racism. No one envisioned that an American president would be impeached for encouraging his followers to storm the U.S. Capitol to overturn a legal election. ....
