News: Federal court discontinues witness testimony of former House Speaker against former senior TPLF members Photo: HoPR Addis Abeba, May 26, 2021-The Federal first instance court, Arada Bench, 1st appointment bench began prosecutors witness hearing against the 42 defendants in Abreha Tekeste’s file in closed sessions. At the hearing on May 21, 2021 the Federal first instance court, Arada Bench, 1st appointment bench rejected the defendants’ demand for a constitutional inquiry council to look into the application of some proclamations regarding the conduct of witness hearing and sustained its decision to hold the hearings behind closed doors as of May 25, 2021. The defendants appeal at the Federal Supreme Court Cassation Bench to repeal the decision was also rejected at the hearing on May 24, 2021. 

News: Court dismisses Lidetu Ayalew s police travel ban after his repeated attempts were blocked

On April 15 Lidetu was banned from travelling to the United States for the 3 rd time as he was returned from Bole international airport where he was told that court orders banned him from traveling. According to his lawyer Gemechu Gudeta, Lidetu appealed to the federal first instance court demanding to debate about his travel ban in a court of law. On April 22, 2021 he appeared in court where the federal police argued that his travel ban should not be lifted explaining that Lidetu is under investigation. The court gave an alternative appointment for April 29, 2021 asking the police to provide more explanations as to Lidetu’s travel ban.

News Analysis: Fed. Court grants police more days to remand, investigate senior TPLF officials, allows private treatment for ailing Sibhat Nega By Mahlet Fasil  Addis Abeba, February 26/2021 – Federal First Instance Court, Arada Division, pre-trial appointment hearing bench in its session on today looked in to the cases of the 20 TPLF officials who are under the federal polices custody, who appeared at the court for the fourth time. In today’s hearing the police have once again appealed for additional days for investigation the senior TPLF officials including Sebhat Nega and Abay Woldu. Despite three similar grants in the last few weeks, the police said that they couldn’t complete their investigation within the 14 days previously allotted by the court.
