Buhari re-appoints FMC medical directors in Lokoja, Asaba Deborah Tolu-Kolawole, Abuja Deborah Tolu-Kolawole, Abuja Published 4 June 2021 The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has approved the re-appointment of the medical directors of the Federal Medical Centres in Lokoja and Asaba. This was disclosed in a statement on Friday by the Director of Information, Federal Ministry of Health, Brendan Nwokike, titled ‘FG re-appoints Medical Directors for FMCs Lokoja and Asaba for a second term in office.’ According to the statement, the Minister of State for Health, Dr Olorunnimbe Mamora, conveyed the President’s approval to Dr Olatunde Alabi of the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja, Kogi State and Dr Osiatuma Azubuike of Asaba, Delta State during an event held in Abuja.

This is a far cry from at least 2,000 neurosurgeons that should reasonably serve the population, experts say. A neurosurgeon is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis and surgical treatment of disorders of the central and peripheral nervous system, including congenital anomalies, trauma, tumors, vascular disorders, infections of the brain or spine, stroke, or degenerative diseases of the spine. They also treat congenital problems of the nervous system such as hydrocephalus, spina bifida, and encephalocele, among others.
