New container ship service sets sail between Hamilton and Montreal Hamilton Container Terminal (HCT), in partnership with the Hamilton-Oshawa Port Authority (HOPA Ports) and Desgagnés, is taking the first step in developing a container feeder service between Hamilton and Montreal. Docking at Hamilton’s Pier 14, the M/V Sedna Desgagnés is due to make the new service’s first voyage June 10. This shipment is the first of what is expected to be an increasingly frequent service for container movements on the Great Lakes. The container ‘feeder’ vessel will carry approximately 350 containers (350 TEUs) originating in the GTHA from Hamilton to Montreal. These containers, carrying a diverse range of cargoes, will be transloaded in Montreal to other vessels destined for various overseas ports.

April 21, 2021 By Waterways Journal Montreal-based Federal Marine Terminals Inc. (FMT) has signed an operating agreement with Port Itawamba, located on the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway (Tenn-Tom) near the city of Fulton, Miss. With the agreement, Federal Marine Terminals further expands its reach into the southeastern United States. The company already has operations in Florida at Port Manatee and Tampa and in Lake Charles, La., within the Port of Lake Charles. The new operation within Port Itawamba offers Federal Marine Terminals connections to the south to the Port of Mobile and other ports along the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. To the north, Port Itawamba offers Federal Marine Terminals connections to the Midwestern states via the Tennessee, Ohio and Mississippi rivers, and beyond.

FMT signs operating agreement for Port Itawamba

Federal Marine Terminals, Inc. (FMT) signed an operating agreement with Port Itawamba, increasing its presence in the Southern region of the USA within this vital inland waterway system. The facility, located in Northern Mississippi on the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway, covers an impressive reach, including destinations along the US Gulf Coast and into the US Midwest. FMT will be handling a variety of commodities including steel, bulk, forest products, and project cargoes while exploring additional opportunities.
