Crews have recovered the body of a missing kayaker after hours of searching along the Chattahoochee River.
Georgia Department of Natural Resources officials said the person was identified as 41-year-old David Southin.
Gwinnett County officials said firefighters began their response at 1:23 a.m. Forsyth County’s swiftwater team was already in the water; they located the kayak but requested assistance because the jurisdiction could possibly be in Gwinnett County, according to officials.

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. A man was injured and two of his grandchildren are OK after escaping an early morning fire on Sunday near Lawrenceville.
Gwinnett County firefighters responded to two house fires off Twin Brook Way at around 2 a.m. Crews arrived to find two single-story, single-family residences on slabs fully engulfed in flames. Heat from the blazes had started to extend to neighboring houses to the left and right of the engulfed structures, fire officials said in a statement.
Crews used a defensive mode to put out the fire, they said.

NORCROSS, Ga. - Gwinnett County firefighters have successfully put out a blaze that heavily damaged a Norcross apartment building early Monday morning.
Officials say they were called to the Las Palamas Apartments on Seasons Parkway around 3:10 a.m. after a 911 reported hearing screams and seeing people run out of the building.
When they arrived, crews found the back of the building engulfed in flames and the fire already through the roof of the building.
Crews were able to successfully evacuate all the residents and report no injuries at the time.
