Shannon forges partnership with Cook Children's Hospital, Pediatrix

View Comments SAN ANGELO   Calling the partnership a first of its kind  between Texas pediatric providers in Texas, Shannon Medical Center announced Thursday it was teaming up with Cook Children’s Healthcare System and Pediatrix Medical Group, a Mednax company, to enhance neonatal care in the Concho Valley. The three organizations will work together to ensure continuous provider coverage for Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) patients at Shannon while also sharing innovative best practices and models of care between the hospitals, according to a news release issued July 15, 2021. Almost 2,000 babies are born each year at Shannon Women’s & Children’s Hospital and the Shannon South Hospital, and an estimated 10-15% of all newborns need additional neonatal care at birth, the news release stated.

The funds are part of a $200 million Provider Financial Support Program that Blue Shield announced last April.
