Inspired by a collection of poems by Gloria Watkins, better known by her pen name “bell hooks,” “Visual Elegy” is an art exhibit composed of print pieces made by artists around the country. 
hooks’ collection of poems, “Appalachian Elegy” is the focus of the print exhibit. The exhibit is curated by Nicole Hand, professor of art in the department of art and design and assistant dean for the college of humanities and fine arts, with 27 female artists providing print pieces.  ....

Angela Onwuachi-Willig is one of the country’s leading scholars of race and the law, but in a letter addressing her students after the killing of George Floyd, she confessed that she had struggled over what she would say to them. As a Black woman and a law school dean the first dean of color at Boston University’s School of Law and first Black woman to lead a top-20 law school Onwuachi-Willig wrote that she wondered if she
could say anything publicly, “imagining the backlash when certain words come out of my Black mouth. 
“Perhaps surprising to some of you, racism regularly disempowers the seemingly powerful dean,” wrote Onwuachi-Willig, who was appointed as dean, and a professor of law, in 2018.  ....

When Lyle Ashton Harris grandfather passed away, he and his brother inherited a vast trove of over 10,000 Ektachrome slides documenting his day-to-day life. Developed in the early 1940s, the film is a brand name from Kodak, and was a new type of color technology when their grandfather adopted it. (Instead of adding color to black-and-white images during processing, as is done with Kodachrome, this film allowed people to take images directly in color.) ....
