Watkinsville couple featured in TODAY show segment for Netflix movie

Athens Banner-Herald Mike and Alana Stanton made it big as featured guests on a  TODAY With Hoda & Jenna segment Friday  and they did it by going small. The Stantons, of Watkinsville, appeared via livestream for a story about  The Minimalists: Less Is Now, a Netflix documentary that premiered on Jan. 1. The recent film was selected as the morning show s Documentary of the Month, and filmmakers Joshua Fields Millburn and Ryan Nicodemus were interviewed by co-hosts Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush. Alongside Los Angeles-based comedian Andy Lomeli, the Stantons gave a testimonial about how Millburn and Nicodemus s 2015 Netflix documentary, Minimalism, inspired them to rid their lives of household clutter.

It’s too bad the short doc comes up empty on new revelations. The basic 53-minute film uses the lives and philosophies of the acclaimed duo dubbed The Minimalists (Joshua Fields Millburn and Ryan Nicodemus) to present some sobering facts about our spending habits and tendency to hoard. (One of the most popular quotes it kicks off the film’s trailer states that the average American house contains more than 300,000 items.)
