Heidi Lowe Gallery will offer a five-hour jewelry-making class on how to make a silver ring with a beach glass setting, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, May 22.
This is the perfect class for any beach lover. Participants will learn how to make a ring and set a piece of beach glass in silver. They will learn techniques such as sawing, filing, soldering and bezel setting. The gallery will provide a selection of beach glass for attendees to choose from, but if registrants have a few favorite pieces that they love and want to bring to class, instructors can figure out which one will work best for this project. Participants can wear their own handmade jewelry out the door.

Heidi Lowe Gallery will offer an 8-week class on chains, links and toggle clasps from 5:30 to 8 p.m., Thursdays, starting May 13.
This will be an in-depth jewelry class focused on making chains and links. While practicing how to make a few variations of these and a toggle clasp, students will also learn the fundamentals of working with metal wire. Techniques to be taught include sawing, drilling, filing, forming, soldering, texturing, making jump rings, finishing and more.

Heidi Lowe Gallery will offer a 2.5-hour jewelry-making class Saturday, May 1, where attendees will learn how to make a silver cuff bracelet with a quotation. Sessions are set for 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 2 to 4:30 p.m.
Quotation bracelets make a great gift for anyone going through a big shift such as graduating from high school or college. Attendees will make silver bracelets that contain an inspiring message or quote as a wearable reminder of an event or unique piece of wisdom.
This is a basic metalsmithing class where students will learn to texture, cut, file and form metal to make a sterling silver bracelet. They will design and hand stamp their bracelet with their special quote or mantra. No experience is necessary. Participants must be at least 13 years old. The class costs $145 including the materials fee. Registration closes Wednesday, April 28.
Jeffrey Paley, journalist, gallerist and investor, dies at 82
Jeffrey Paley, who wrote for newspapers from Europe, championed young artists in SoHo and became a private investor, died of complications of the coronavirus on Feb. 27, 2021 at a hospital in Manhattan, his wife, Valerie Paley, said. He was 82. Wendy Mills via The New York Times.

.- Jeffrey Paley had been working as a reporter at The New York Herald Tribune when the paper closed in 1966. He was determined to become a columnist in Europe but didnt have a news outlet to write for. So he climbed into his car and drove around the Northeast, stopping in at newspapers to see if they would like to pick up his column.

Heidi Lowe Gallery will offer a 2.5-hour jewelry-making class on how to make a pair of silver patterned statement earrings from 12:30 to 3 p.m., Monday, April 19.
In this class, students will create one-of-a-kind, patterned statement earrings and learn basic metalsmithing techniques such as sawing, piercing, roller printing, filing, sanding and polishing. Each pair of earrings will be uniquely designed. This class is perfect for beginning students as the instructor will guide them through each skill from start to finish. The class is $135 including materials fee. Registration closes Friday, April 16.
