CHARLOTTE, N.C. A Code Orange Air Quality Alert is in effect for most of North Carolina Thursday due to smoke and haze in the atmosphere from wildfires that are burning in Canada and the western United States.
The effects from those wildfires are being seen as far east as the Carolinas, where 100 North Carolina counties are under an Air Quality Alert Thursday. First Warn forecaster Larry Sprinkle said the smoke and haze will be hanging around at least another day or two.

NOTTINGHAM, MD The skies in Maryland have become a bit more hazy in recent days.
The National Weather Service says this is due to smoke from the U.S. wildfires, which is getting transported across the country via the jet stream.
The massive Bootleg Fire in Oregon has scorched an area larger than Los Angeles, and is so large and is burning so hot that it’s creating its own weather, according to CNN.
While most of the smoke is higher in the sky, some of it is making its way closer to the ground.
