Croatia registering positive trends in coronavirus infections

Alemka Markotić and Davor Božinović (Photo HINA/ Dario GRZELJ) ZAGREB, 20 January (Hina) – Health Minister Vili Beroš said on Wednesday that Croatia was still registering positive trends in coronavirus infections and that 1,603 patients were being treated in hospitals today, which is 110 fewer than yesterday. That is a big decline in one day, but there are two more patients on ventilators, so caution is still needed, Beroš said. Reducing personal contacts, he stressed, is a guarantee for preventing the infection from spreading further, and vaccination gives hope. “The delivery of the vaccine is currently stable, all manufacturers are planning to increase production and doses,” Beroš said.

Government of the Republic of Croatia - We still need to be cautious

We still need to be cautious Health Minister Vili Beroš said on Wednesday that Croatia was among more liberal European countries in terms of COVID-19 restrictions and that there was no room for easing the measures in place. People s yearning for the old way of life is understandable, but we must not make a wrong move. We are among more liberal countries in Europe in restricting different rights, Beroš told a press conference, noting that 17 European countries had imposed a curfew and 20 were in some sort of lockdown. There is no room for relaxing, we must continue to be cautious. There is no curfew, no lockdown, face masks are not mandatory outdoors, shops and services are open except for cafes and restaurants, cinemas, theatres, galleries and museums. If we look at cultural activities and gyms, they are closed in more than 20 EU countries and cafes and restaurants in 24 countries, the health minister said.

He stressed he could not specify whether the current measures would be relaxed after 31 January, but until then each existing measure would be evaluated. Commenting on claims about the introduction of vaccination certificates which could enable citizens to travel, Božinović said there were no formal discussions on them.
