Kumho Petrochemical may be starting to undergo a generational succession after Group Chairman Park Chan-koo stepped down from his positions as CEO and board member of the group s core affiliate. Industry watchers believe a succession is starting to take place as the chairman s children are moving swiftly up the ranks within the conglomerate.
However, there is a key obstacle standing in the way of the transition: although shareholders have backed the chairman to maintain management control, his nephew, Park Chul-wan, led the so-called nephew s revolt earlier this year.
Chul-wan is the son of late Kumho Group Chairman Park Jeong-koo, who was the older brother of current Chairman Park Chan-koo.

The latest arrests of former Asiana Group Chairman Park Sam-koo and Eastar Jet founder Lee Sang-jik illustrate the rise and fall of two airline business moguls.
The two came from different backgrounds, with Park being the second generation of a chaebol family and Lee being a self-made entrepreneur.
For both, it was an airline that allowed them to accumulate wealth and fame, before they ended up getting arrested ― Park on May 13 and Lee on April 28 ― on embezzlement and other charges.

The Korea Development Bank (KDB) is expected to sign a stock purchase agreement with local private equity firm (PEF) JC Partners in the near future as the possible final act of its long-term attempts to sell KDB Life Insurance, sources said Monday.
JC Partners has recently attracted 150 billion won ($136 million) in funding from domestic small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and retail investors, on top of the combined 200 billion won funded by the KDB and Woori Bank previously, sources familiar with the issue said.
The funds came a few months after JC Partners, which was selected as the preferred bidder in July, had postponed taking over the life insurer, due to apparent difficulties in raising money for the acquisition.
