Graffiti Classics bring Playground Proms to Barrow primary school

A WORLD leading comedy string quartet toured in Cumbria last week. Graffiti Classics, in partnership with Cumbria Music Hub and supported by Arts Council England, visited the region s primary schools from 17 until 21 May, including Barrow Island Community Primary School. Students at the Barrow primary school enjoyed a thrilling, musical workshop called Playground Proms. Inspired by the famous BBC Proms, Playground Proms was designed during the coronavirus pandemic, explained Graffiti Classics Cathal Ó Dúill. Mr Ó Dúill said: We quickly devised the Playground Proms in response to the Covid crisis. We usually tour our educational workshop indoors in school halls, but moving the show out into the playground was a simple solution to navigating important Covid restrictions.

Graffiti Classics, in partnership with Cumbria Music Hub and supported by Arts Council England, took the first-ever Playground Proms to primary schools in Cumbria last week. After many months of lockdown, it is estimated that more than 1,000 schoolchildren enjoyed the thrill of a fun-filled, educational and diverse musical workshop, inspired by the world-famous BBC Proms, safely in the fresh air of their own playground.

Families and schools from across Cumbria have joined Cumbria Music Hub staff during lockdown to join in their #CumbriaSings song ‘It’s Ok (Please Just Say)’.
