Child care levy extension to be on August ballot in King County

A levy aimed at helping improve access to child care in King County will be sent to voters this August. Voters will decide in the Aug. 3 primary whether to extend the Best Starts for Kids levy another six years. The King County Council voted unanimously Tuesday to put the levy on the ballot. The new proposal would set a first-year levy rate of 19 cents per $1,000 of a property’s assessed value, or about $114 per year for a median-priced King.

Pat January 28, 2021 (8:21 pm) Not the time for more taxes 1994 January 28, 2021 (10:30 pm) While the idea is great, my limited income only goes so far and I have to live within my budget. There are proposals to increase the gas tax, tax your health insurance, tax your home and auto insurance, the property tax is increasing every year, car tab taxes, the ever increasing sales tax…….sure it is only a few cents or bucks here or there at the local or state level, but add it all up and my limited income is getting taxed out of my control. I end up with less and less discretionary income to decide how I want to spend, or be able to save it for a new water heater or other house maintenance.
