First United Presbyterian Church turns 135 The church had 27 members. Now, it s 135 with 90 members. Church member Audrey Law said it s wonderful to see the church reach such a milestone. It just shows the continuity I think with our congregation and it shows that we are industrious so to speak, in keeping ourselves going, she said. The congregation is small, but it doesn t seem to have made any difference in the larger picture of now and when they had a greater number of members, Law said. We still seem to have all the same activities pretty much, I think, and we just seem to do a pretty good job of staying alive, she said.

Three organizations received grants from the Women of Purpose group

Garden City Telegram Three community organizations were awarded grants by the Western Kansas Community Foundation at the annual Women of Purpose Award Luncheon hosted by WKCF Wednesday. Women of Purpose is a group within by the WKCF that focuses on giving funds to women s causes in the area. Court orders retrial on one count in Garden City abuse case

Court orders retrial on one count in Garden City abuse case The Kansas Court of Appeals has affirmed convictions for a Garden City man on 10 counts of abuse involving his wife and two children.  The court, however, last week ordered a retrial for the defendant, Jaw Dah, on one count of felony criminal threat. The lone issue the appellate court sustained was whether the threat that the jury convicted Dah for was “intentional” or “reckless” – something the jury was not asked to indicate. The court upheld Dah’s other convictions on three counts each of aggravated battery and abuse of a child, two counts of aggravated criminal sodomy, plus individual counts of aggravated assault and intimidation of a witness.
