Phil Naro, a local musician who played with some of the biggest rock stars of the 80s and 90s, has died. His family announced his passing in a statement posted to Facebook Monday. Naro was 63. Phil fought a valiant battle against cancer over the last few years but left this earth last night, surrounded by his family and closest friends, the family said.
A Rochester native, Naro was perhaps best known as the lead singer of the Buffalo-based band Talas, which toured with many of the 80’s top hard rock attractions including Anthrax, White Lion, Quiet Riot, and Iron Maiden.
A statement issued by the rocker s family reveals that the 63-year-old passed away on May 2 night surrounded by his family and closest friends at his home in Rochester.

Ridgefield High School freshman Jimy Bishop has been busy writing and recording new music while stuck at home during the COVID-19 pandemic. Jimy optimistically released a song titled “Take It to the Streets” earlier this year and has been unexpectedly but quite pleasantly surprised by the public reaction. The song is currently #27 on the New Music Weekly Top 40 Chart and #36 on the New Music Weekly Hot 100 Chart.
