Employees with Lafayette Utilities Service accidentally busted a small gas line around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, causing a gas leak in the 600 block of East Vermilion Street.
Fortunately, there were no injuries and no evacuations were needed as Lafayette firefighters and the Lafayette Hazmat Team were able to quickly stop the leak by placing a temporary patch on it until Atmos Energy made it on to the scene.

Until Atmos Energy has the repair completed, the 600 block is closed off to thru traffic.
