Times Leader Staff Writer ST. CLAIRSVILLE The city’s Main Street will kick off a series of Second Saturday events this weekend, following today’s Food Truck Friday. St. Clairsville Area Chamber of Commerce Director Wendy Anderson, organizing the event, said excitement is high and all are welcome in the coming months. “And then we’ll have a Second Saturday in June, July and August, September and October,” she said. “The second Saturday of every month until October.” Anderson said extensive participation will mark each event, from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. “We have all-day events. We have a food truck, which is Mason Dixon BBQ. We have Jack’s Ice Cream,” she said. “We have D.J. Daner. He will be providing the music and he will be DJing downtown. We will have sidewalk sales. We will have crafts.”

Times Leader Staff Writer Barb Ballint, director of the Belmont County Tourism Council, reports a decrease in lodging tax receipts but said the tourism council will continue its work. ST. CLAIRSVILLE Belmont County has seen a steep decline in lodging tax receipts due to the coronavirus pandemic, but Tourism Council Director Barb Ballint said her department will keep aiding and promoting local events despite decreased funding. The lodging tax receipts hit an “all-time low,” declining 53 percent from first quarter 2020 and 66 percent from first quarter 2019. Ballint told county commissioners last week that hotel occupancy was impacted by the pandemic, as well as by decreased work in the oil and gas industry. A tax on people using hotels provides the tourism council’s annual funding.

ST. CLAIRSVILLE The St. Clairsville Rotary Club distributed more than 100 boxes filled with food items to those in need Thursday. Wendy Anderson, a member of Rotary and director of the St. Clairsville Area Chamber of Commerce, said the food giveaway was a success with around 120 boxes of food being distributed to residents in the area. “It was wonderful. … It was a very big success,” she said.

CLAIRSVILLE Main Street will be alive with extra activity on Fridays and Saturdays in the coming months, with Food Truck Fridays held weekly and to be followed by a Second Saturday event once a month. Wendy Anderson, director of the St. Clairsville Area Chamber of Commerce, said events will continue well into fall, thanks to a generous grant. “Our Second Saturday is sponsored by EQT and a grant from Belmont County Tourism,” she said. “It’ll be the second Saturday of every month of May, June, July, August, September and October.”
