TRENTON – A package of bills focused on the management of New Jersey’s veterans’ homes was endorsed this week by Senate and Assembly panels and appears likely to be sent to Gov. Phil Murphy this month.
The bills were negotiated by lawmakers and Murphy’s office and are supported by both parties. They do not include a December bill establishing an independent Office of Inspector General for Veterans’ Facilities – an exclusion the American Legion told lawmakers it would like to see corrected.
“We’re hopeful that this package will prevent a lot of the problems that these veterans’ nursing homes had in the past,” said Sen. Vin Gopal, D-Monmouth, who chairs the Senate Military and Veterans’ Affairs Committee.

(EAST ORANGE/ORANGE, NJ) - On this last day of Women’s History Month, before the clock strikes 12 midnight, TAPinto wanted to pause from all the Coronavirus news and take the time to highlight women in our communities making a difference.
In honor of the many s-heroes, we have created our second annual “East Orange and Orange 100 Women of Power and Progress” list.
The criteria used to select each woman was as follows: 1. The woman must be a resident of or work in East Orange or Orange. 2. She must use her life and platforms by way of career, volunteerism, social media, etc. to promote positivity, unity, and the uplifting of other women within one of the two municipalities and beyond.

Tucker & McKnight Measure to Establish Black Heritage Trail Clears Assembly Committee
(TRENTON) – Black history, heritage, and culture has had a longstanding impact on New Jersey. Assembly members Cleopatra Tucker (D-Essex) and Angela McKnight (D-Hudson) sponsor legislation to bring that history to light with the New Jersey Black Heritage Trail. On Monday, the measure was passed by the Assembly Tourism, Gaming, and the Arts Committee.
The bill (A-4706) would direct the Division of Travel and Tourism in the Department of State to establish a series of Black heritage sites to promote Black history, heritage, and culture. Throughout the trail, sites and historic markers will connect the stories of Black life and resiliency in New Jersey.
