The Democrats attempting to stop the vote audit in Arizona found a way for Judge Christopher Coury to recuse the case. They got an attorney who interned for Judge Coury to replace the lawyer they initially hired, leaving him no choice but to recuse.

PHOENIX (AP) An Arizona judge cited deep concerns about ballot secrecy on Friday during an audit of the 2020 election results from the state’s most populous county, but the process will move forward after Democrats decided not to put up a $1 million bond to fund any increase in costs from the delay.
That price tag was too steep, Democrats said, letting the audit continue in Maricopa County home to Arizona’s largest city, Phoenix while leaving in place the judge’s orders that the Arizona Senate and its auditors follow state law on ballot secrecy and voter privacy as they do a hand recount of 2.1 million ballots. ....

Supreme Court considers education tax arguments
The fate of a tax on the rich to help fund education could come down to whether the Arizona Supreme Court believes the money raised will provide “grants” to schools.
During a hour-long argument Tuesday, Andy Gaona, representing the organization that crafted Proposition 208, told the justices that the dollars the new tax would raise are earmarked for special purposes. These range from teacher salaries to funding career and technical education programs.
That, he said, makes it different from the basic aid given to schools each year by the state and any dollars they raise locally, all of which districts are free to allocate as they wish. ....

Newly-appointed Arizona Supreme Court justice Andrew Gould is sworn in by assistant Arizona Secretary of State Lee Miller on Dec. 19, 2016, at the Capitol in Phoenix.
Arizona Supreme Court Justice Andrew Gould will be stepping down from the bench after serving since 2017, according to a notice he provided to the governor. 
Gould will retire on April 1. He was appointed by Gov. Doug Ducey in 2016 after the court expanded from five to seven justices. 
Ducey said in a statement Friday that Gould has remained committed to the law, working to ensure justice for victims and upholding the Constitution.  ....
