Parents encouraged to write to state leaders over mask mandate
Frustrated school superintendents advocate for local control, suggest residents write state leaders over issue
Following Gov. Kate Brown s announcement July 29 that she had directed Oregon Department of Education and Oregon Health Authority to require masks in schools this fall, some parents have begun to push back. Nope. It s time to unenroll our students and find a better alternative then [sic] continue to force children into living this way, Rebecca J Tee said on Facebook in response to the news.
And local superintendents are encouraging those parents to write letters to state leaders.

Clackamas County halts effort to repeal emergency declaration May 06 2021
UPDATE: Board tables discussion on rescinding housing measure; Chair Tootie Smith blames panic stirred by email campaign.
UPDATED THURSDAY, MAY 6, 12:40 P.M.: The Clackamas Board of County Commissioners has decided, for now, not to end an emergency housing declaration nearly three months before its scheduled sunset. The board s decision Thursday, May 6, to stall their action on ending the declaration came after a somewhat bitter discussion over whether rescinding the emergency order would impact the county s ability to be agile in responding to safety threats to Clackamas County s unhoused populations caused by extreme weather events such as ice storms, wildfires or heat. It is set to expire on Aug. 1, 2021, but has been renewed by the board each of the last four years.

Grand Ronde tribe withdraws from Willamette Falls Trust April 29 2021
Owners of former paper-mill property pull out of organization aimed at engaging public, raising funds for redevelopment
The Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde this month withdrew from the Willamette Falls Trust, the nonprofit organization made up of more than a dozen agencies.
Willamette Falls Trust has taken on engaging the public and raising funds to support the Willamette Falls Legacy Project, a major collaboration effort between the tribes and various governmental agencies in the redevelopment of the former industrial land around the falls in a way that pays homage to the sacred site with cultural significance to Pacific Northwest tribes. Willamette Falls Trust members included four other federally recognized tribes and government representatives from Oregon City, Clackamas County, Metro and the state of Oregon.
