A man who caused a crash whilst drunk has been given a suspended sentence. Andrew Robert Mathely was behind the wheel of a Saab Vector on March 13 on Old Kempshott Lane when it was involved in a crash. He was suspected of being drunk but when asked to supply a breath specimen, failed to do so. Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court was also told that whilst he was being transferred between the crash scene and the police station in Viables, he damaged the inside of a police van. Mathely, of Wiltshire Crescent, was sent to prison for 12 weeks, but the order was suspended for 18 months.
