No. 7 Florida State softball (39-9-1, 27-5-1 ACC) advanced to the ACC Tournament semifinals with a 2-0 win over seven seed NC State (26-25, 15-23 ACC). At the plate, FSU produced six hits and a big fly was the difference. The Seminoles didn’t make an error in the field and allowed just one free pass in the circle to take home the close win.
“It is the postseason and you can see a little bit of nerves in the beginning,” head coach Lonni Alameda said following Thursday’s sun. “We ran ourselves out of a few situations but to see Devyn get after a big swing and Kalei as a freshman swinging it is really exciting to get that win under our belt. We will have a fresh mind tomorrow and keep playing Florida State softball.”
The Seminoles have won the opening game of every ACC series this season.
NC State 1, No. 6 Florida State 2
Caylan Arnold started and pitched a gem for the Noles. She threw 6.2 innings for FSU in the first game of the series against the Wolfpack. Arnold allowed just three hits and one run with five strikeouts.
Danielle Watson entered the game with two outs in the seventh inning and forced a groundout to second base.
Neither team had much going until the fourth inning. NC State loaded the bases in the top of the fourth inning with one out after a double, a walk and a fielder’s choice. Arnold got out of the jam with a strikeout and a pop-out to first base.

Buffalo’s Brianna Castro lined a ball deep into right field.
