5 Lee Faculty Receive Tenure Monday, February 22, 2021

Following its annual board meeting this month, Lee University’s Board of Directors has awarded tenure to five faculty members. The new tenured faculty members are Dr. Joseph Daft, Dr. Rebecca Hergert, Jordan Holt, Dr. Christopher Stephenson, and Dr. Charlotte Webb.
Dr. Daft joined Lee’s College of Arts and Sciences as an assistant professor of biology and health science in 2015. He teaches courses in health science, microbiology, and anatomy. Dr. Daft earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in pathology with a focus on diabetes-based pathology and immunology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and his Bachelor of Science (BS) from Juniata College. While at UAB, Dr. Daft served as a graduate research assistant and teaching assistant. He has also been a research fellow at the University of Toledo and an adjunct professor at the University of Montevallo.

Portland area commercial brokers reflect on a challenging year

PORTLAND The greater Portland commercial real estate market has taken a hit from the pandemic, with retail space and office space taking the biggest blows, according to new reports.
Retail vacancy rates in Portland, South Portland, Scarborough, Cape Elizabeth, Westbrook and Falmouth rose from 3.13% in 2019 to 4.04% in 2020 and could rise higher this year, according to a Malone Commercial Brokers analysis.

Back-to-office plans vary widely among Portland-area employers
A survey of more than 160 companies in Greater Portland showed that a majority of firms don t know when their workers will return to the office.

Now that everyone is accustomed to working from home, it’s time to start talking about heading back into the office.
A survey by the The Boulos Co., a Portland commercial real estate firm, found that executives at about a third of the Maine firms it contacted expect workers to be back in the office by early fall, although more than half of the 167 companies contacted said their plans remain up in the air. The survey was conducted online from September through November, using Boulos clients and subscribers to the company’s email newsletter.
