The work took longer than expected, but power is back on in the village of Union City after an outage of 13 hours following a Wednesday explosion and fire.
Following the fire, it took nine hours to route power through an old underground cable into village lines. Concerns about the circuit forced village power crews and private contractor Hydaker Wheatlake to put in 12 new lines, many across Coldwater Road, to keep reliable power flowing into village lines.
“All old structures have been disconnected and old wire was taken down, Village Manager Chris Mathis said. All new wire has been run and connected into the grid at the other points, including Coldwater Road/Broadway and Crane Street/Clark Street.”
