Campus recreation employees use training, quick thinking to revive Oxford man from cardiac arrest

OXFORD, Miss He doesn t remember it, but Rob Barber s heart stopped beating for almost a full minute after he collapsed recently while exercising at the University of Mississippi s South Campus Recreation Center.
FREMONT — A Jasper County man was housed in the Steuben County jail Monday after leading Indiana State Police troopers on a lengthy vehicle pursuit Monday afternoon.
Aida Fraser-Hammer, is in her eighth year there, and has just announced it will be her last. Here is the letter she sent to the school community:
It is a tremendous honor being principal at Chief Sealth International High School. I truly love the school and I cannot see myself working anywhere else. When I walked in the doors of this beautiful school 8 years ago, I had already fallen in love with the students and I was driven by my deep desire to provide them with the education they deserve, an education that empowers the powerless, open doors for the uninvited, and makes dreams a reality. I truly appreciate the trust that you placed in me to guide the school to where we are now. Together we have designed the path to social justice and equity in education. Without your support, our school would not be on the cusp of becoming a place where ALL students belong. YOU made the difference for our students, and along the way YOU have empowered me.
I am pleased to announce the appointment of
Aida Fraser-Hammer as your new principal, effective July 1, 2013. She replaces Chris Kinsey who announced in June that he would not be returning in the fall.
Ms. Fraser-Hammer comes to Chief Sealth International High School from Kentwood High School in Covington, Washington, where she has been an assistant principal since 2004. At Kentwood she worked with staff, students, and families to increase on-time graduation rates and students’ academic achievement. Ms. Fraser-Hammer has an international background, and she is fluent in Spanish.
Prior to Kentwood High School, Ms. Fraser-Hammer served as assistant principal at Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, California. She also spent a year as administrative intern at Joel E. Ferris High School in Spokane, Washington, and was a teacher and MESA high school coordinator for Spokane Public Schools and Washington State University.
