Families cheered them on as they returned to a Bonita Springs fire station.
Long-awaited embraces with loved ones and signs of support were what greeted the members of Task Force 6 once they returned home from a trying and tiring week in Surfside.
“It’s bittersweet to be home. There’s still a lot to be done over there so that part is a little disappointing. There are still people that need closure,” said Greg DeWitt, leader of Task Force 6.
They worked 12-hour shifts digging through the rubble. As they worked day and night, even fighting a fire in the process, being around the impacted families had to be the most difficult part.
