GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) The team met around a table on a Sunday morning in early 2020 as coronavirus cases across the country had begun dominating the national news.
The country was grinding to a halt and Eric Aft, CEO of the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina, knew the hunger problem would no doubt get worse. Second Harvest is one of nine regional Feeding America food distribution operatives across the state.
At the time, the Winston-Salem-based operation, which covers an 18-county area including Guilford, had several projects on the table. The agency moves tons of donated food to nonprofit organizations locally that help the hungry, ranging from Greensboro Urban Ministry to the food pantries at local colleges.
Brittany Williams fits that bill.
The founder of Greensboro s iAlign Dance Company, Williams and her team have collected new and gently used laptops from businesses and individuals, refurbished the computers and distributed them to Guilford County students in need.
So far, they have handed out nearly 500 laptops so that students can learn remotely during the pandemic.
Williams campaign has landed her on the Friday, Jan. 15 episode of Rachael Ray the syndicated daily talk and lifestyle television program hosted by the celebrity cook and author.Â
âHer good deed has literally transformed into a movement, Ray says of Williams in a segment recorded before Christmas. Hereâs another example of how each one of us can literally change the world.â
