A huge stage has been built for a comedy festival happening in Bristol this week, which is one of the first major events to take place in the city this year.
Another big outdoor event this summer
The promoters behind London’s Greenwich Comedy Festival – and the Brighton and Bristol Comedy Gardens – have added another week-long outdoor festival to their roster this summer.
Dara O Briain, Sara Pascoe, Alan Davies, Tom Allen and Aisling Bea are among the big names who will be playing the St Albans Comedy Garden.
The event will be held in Verulamium Park – where Eddie Izzard spearheaded a Laughs In The Park festival back in 2011 – from July 28 to August 1.
Mixed-bill shows will be presented in a fully-seated open-air theatre with pop-up bars and street food outlets, with seats sold in multiples of two, to allow for social distancing if Covid rules - which should have been long relaxed by then - are reintroduced.
Sara Pascoe and Josh Widdicombe The sibling team, of the London-based 57 Festivals, already successfully delivered a Covid-secure event with their Greenwich Comedy Festival in September 2020. Cass said: “We were heartbroken to have to cancel last year’s event. We were really looking forward to returning especially after such a strong first year. But everything is in front of us now and we consider ourselves incredibly lucky to have been able to reimagine our event to suit these challenging times.” Will said: “We’ve got an unbelievable line-up and can’t wait to get these acts in front of our Brighton audience.
