Special Feb. 9 election pits Republican incumbent Broder against Democrat challenger Wimbish for Fayette District Attorney

While most political ads have disappeared, there’s one local race still to be decided: district attorney for the Griffin Judicial Circuit, which includes Fayette, Spalding, Pike and Upson counties. Veteran Assistant D.A. Marie Broder was appointed last year by Gov. Brian Kemp to replace Ben Coker, who became the circuit’s newest superior court judge. The special election on Feb. 9 is for the remaining two years of the four-year-term for D.A. Broder, a Republican, has a Democrat opponent, Rev. Dexter Wimbish, a Griffin-based attorney and civil rights advocate.

The beginning of a new year is a great time to reflect on the previous. Despite the many obstacles of 2020, the work done by Judge Jason B. Thompson and the Fayette County Accountability Courts team was still needed by the community. After implementing the Griffin Judicial Circuit’s first DUI/Drug Court in 2016, Judge Thompson began 2020 with the judicial circuit’s newest court: Veterans Treatment Court. Last year concluded by graduating the largest class of participants in DUI/Drug Court to date, whom remained dedicated to their sobriety while navigating the Covid-19 pandemic.

90 arrests in big Georgia meth bust Authorities say around 90 arrests are expected in the end of a methamphetamine drug investigation. JACKSON, Ga. - A big drug investigation that law enforcement dubbed Crystal Web in 12 Georgia counties that targeted methamphetamines was expected to end with more than 90 arrests.  Butts County Sheriff Gary Long said this meth network was dealing about 22 pounds of methamphetamines a week. He called it a large operation and believed law enforcement had dismantled it from the top down. Sheriff Gary Long of Butts County The roundup of suspects started early Friday morning and continued late in the afternoon.  More than 90 suspects in both Butts and Spalding Counties.
