With J&J out, Savannah providers fill in with other COVID vaccine

With the FDA recommending a pause in the use of the single-dose Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccine because of a rare side effect, Savannah area providers are falling back on the two-dose Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. We scheduled these clinics because people were clamoring for it, Coastal Health District spokeswoman Sally Silbermann said of the J&J vaccine clinics scheduled for Tuesday. But we re not gonna do it now. We re going to honor the appointments, but it s not going to be that. It s gonna be Pfizer in Chatham County and Moderna in Liberty County. The Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Tuesday they are reviewing data involving six reported cases of a rare and severe type of blood clot occurring 6-13 days after the J&J vaccination. In these cases, a type of blood clot called cerebral venous sinus thrombosis was seen in combination with low levels of blood platelets. All six cases occurred among women between the ages

Savannah Country Day School: One-third of staff gets COVID vaccine

A screenshot of a Savannah Country Day School email has been making the rounds on social media, and it has some questioning how the private school managed to administer the COVID-19 vaccine to about a third of its staffers when vaccine appointments are hard to come by in Chatham County. We are grateful to Coastal Care Partners and Village Walk Pharmacy for providing vaccinations for our faculty and staff. Following CDC guidelines, we are vaccinating our faculty/staff in two waves. The first wave was completed today, the screenshot read. The screenshot, which was leaked to social media on Friday, was confirmed by an SCDS release.
