South Cumbria Scout Association honoured outgoing divisional secretary Chris Pudsey with a certificate and a recognition of ten years service in 1991. And a medal of merit went to Julie Samson for her work as assistant divisional commissioner for leader training. The awards were made at the divisional scout council annual meeting at Barrow Baptist Church hall by divisional commissioner Denis Stanwood. In 1993 the lads of the 1st Duddon Beaver Colony were proud of their new smart banner. The flag was dedicated at a St George s Day Church Parade by the Rev Stephen Skinner, Vicar of Dalton-in-Furness. The banner was presented by Norweb to the new Colony after a series of safety briefings conducted by Celia Dixon, one of the safety representatives from Norweb s Barrow depot.

Plans are now well-rooted for a new section of woodland in Barrow to go ahead next year. These plans include 450 to 500 trees at Bridgegate Avenue in Barrow and 200 for Dalton s junction of Coronation Drive and Greystone Lane The Rotary Club of Furness, alongside the Rotary Club of Barrow in Furness, Rotary Club of Furness Peninsula, and the Inner Wheel Club of Barrow, have obtained permission from Barrow Borough Council for these new planting sites. Graham Postlethwaite, secretary for Furness Rotary, said: This is something we have wanted to do for a while and have been seeking planting sites. Recently we obtained permission from Barrow Borough Council to develop planting sites at Dalton and Barrow.
