OMS: How Okunbo floored Ayeni
On
By Dapo Akinrefon
For Edo State-born politician, philanthropist and business mogul, Captain Hosa Okunbo, it was a sigh of relief when he was cleared of the alleged theft and criminal diversion of company funds levelled against him by a former Chairman of the defunct Skye Bank, Dr Tunde Ayeni.
Okunbo was Ayeni’s erstwhile business partner.
The bone of contention was whether Okunbo lawfully acquired Ayeni’s interest in Ocean Marine Solutions Limited, OMS, an issue that generated so much heat.
The Nigeria Police, however, laid the matter to rest as it exonerated the Edo-born business in the matter saying he (Okunbo) was blameless

Ocean Marine Solutions Limited on Saturday gave reasons why it notified Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and other key government agencies about the divestment from the company by a former Chairman of the defunct Skye Bank, Dr Tunde Ayeni.
The company, in documents made available to Sunday PUNCH, revealed that it also notified the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Central Bank of Nigeria and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, among others, of the divestment to dissociate itself from decisions taken by Ayeni in his capacity as the chairman of the defunct Skye Bank.
The Chairman, Ocean Marine Solutions Limited, Capt Hosa Okunbo, was said to have offered Ayeni some shares in the company valued then at about $600, 000.

Efforts by the former managing director of the defunct Skye Bank PLC, Olatunde Ayeni to implicate and smear the reputation of the Chairman of Ocean Marine Solutions Limited (OMSL), Capt. ldahosa Wells Okunbo, and the company in an allegation of illegal diversion of N29.5 billion cash from the bank, have been dismissed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after a thorough investigation.
Nseobong Okon-Ekong writes that an Ijaw ethnic nationality group protecting the memory of its late patriot, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, Bayelsa Natives in Nigeria and the Diaspora, among others have weighed in on the quarrel between Captain Idahosa Okunbo and Dr. Olatunde Ayeni, which is assuming wider political dimension
For a very long time, erstwhile close associates, Captain Idahosa Okunbo and Dr. Olatunde Ayeni were prevented from going at each other’s jugular by friends and family members who made every effort possible to reconcile them. But after both men, last week, decided to pull political strings and deploy their contacts in government in a show of strength, a point of irreconcilable differences appears to have been reached.

In response to former Skye Bank’s chairman, Tunde Ayeni’s petition to the EFCC, the management of Ocean Marines Solutions Ltd, OMS issued a statement on December 17 2020 that the former Skye Bank boss is no longer a director and shareholder in the company.
The company stated that its board has passed a vote of confidence on Okunbo, describing Ayeni as a “meddlesome interloper”.
OMS added that its funds are intact and in good order while dispelling allegations of misappropriation.
“That Dr. Olatunde John Ayeni is no longer a Director of OMS and any of its Associated Companies having resigned from OMS since August 2018. That Dr. Olatunde John Ayeni is no longer a shareholder of OMS and its Associated Companies having sold and transferred all his shares and interests to Wells Property Development Company Limited for valuable consideration since 2018,” the company said.
