Kim Novak apologises for the mess. And, to be fair, the studio at her Oregon home is fabulously messy. Behind her are a couple of canvases she has been working on; to the left and right, all sorts of all sorts. At the back of the room, her rescue dog, Patches, lies on a sofa, half snoozing, half listening. Occasionally, Sadie Ann, her husband’s pudelpointer, wanders in, sniffs around and leaves. Novak, who turned 88 two days ago, is so much more.

Wife After Wife, and the sequel is just as fantastic in a different way.
Sister to Sister reimagines Elizabeth I and her half-sister, Mary, as Eliza and Maria, daughters of Harry Rose (aka Henry VIII) and competing heirs for his modern-day media empire. Told from the alternating viewpoints of Harry and Eliza, this novel is a fun read but also packed quite an emotional punch for me (I’m not too proud to admit I cried my eyes out!). Eliza’s best friends include William Shakespeare and Kit Marlowe, and Kit absolutely steals the spotlight and was my favourite character by far. You also might find yourself with an intense longing to travel to London as soon as COVID protocols permit.

Sky One’s A Discovery of Witches has built up a loyal legion of fans thanks to its magical blend of fantasy, sizzling romance and dark drama.
Based on the novels of Deborah Harkness and filled with vampires, witches and daemons, the show returns for a second season in a new location - Elizabethan London.
