Gardening tools and seeds are selling well, as more people spend more time at home. A Kitakyushu-based store reported that the sales of such items during 2020 were 1.4 times larger than in 2019. In response to the continued trend, it expanded the gardening section this spring and increased the variety of beginner-friendly items.

The Tama River flows along the border of Tokyo and Kanagawa into Tokyo Bay. But the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020 brought some changes to their everyday life. Relying on the tastes in her memories, Masuda Hitomi, who resigned from a consulting firm, reopens her late grandpa’s old eatery. But the number of customers sharply decreased in the spring of 2020. Just as she thinks about closing the eatery, a high school teacher called Mizutani Mitsuo begins to frequent the shop and always orders bottled beer and “juiced liver with Chinese chives” which were popular in her grandpa’s generation.
