More than six months after thousands of rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol, federal officials secured their first prosecution against one of them this week an Indiana woman.
Bloomfield’s Anna Morgan-Lloyd on Wednesday became the first person sentenced in the Jan. 6 insurrection after pleading guilty to a federal misdemeanor charge in exchange for three years probation, a $500 fine and 40 hours of community service.
During her hearing, the 49-year-old apologized for participating, saying she feels “ashamed” of the “savage display of violence” during the attack, which resulted in five people dead.
The United States’ ongoing prosecution against the Capitol rioters has so far totaled roughly 500 people facing criminal charges. Six Hoosiers, including Morgan-Lloyd, are among them.
