American National Bank sustained significant damage to its main banking center in Terrell, causing it to temporarily close likely though early March, according to the bank. Customers are asked to visit Terrellâs mini-bank location around the corner for lobby services, including access to safety deposit boxes. In all, the cityâs water service performed 130-150 emergency water cutoffs, according to assistant city engineer Mike Mikeska. He estimated that 30-35 businesses in Terrell were impacted, and the rest of the cutoffs were residential. In addition, city crews handled about six calls for water main breaks. With such a large volume of water gushing through pipes after they thawed, water meters were spinning throughout town. Mikeska said the city will try to work with water customers who experience skyrocketing bills. ....
The arctic grip on Terrell intensified overnight as the city and its residents continue to reel from its brutal effects Tuesday. Power outages have left hundreds in the city without power, and Terrellâs hotels were full Tuesday with people seeking warmth. The City of Terrell announced early this afternoon that it has two warming centers open. One is the Rosenbaum Room at the Terrell Police Station, 1100 N. Highway 34, and the other is at the Rockwall and Brin Church of Christ, 407 N. Rockwall. The centers will be open from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. They will not be open overnight. There will be no cots or blankets, pillows, food, medication or USB ports. However, there will be regular power outlets for charging and restrooms. People are requested to wear facemasks and maintain appropriate social distancing due to the pandemic. ....
