Houston man gets 60 years for deadly stabbing of common-law wife

HOUSTON - A Houston man was sentenced to 60 years in prison for the deadly stabbing of his common-law wife in 2018, officials say.
According to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, Xavier Alejandro Martinez, 28, was convicted of murder by a jury after a week-long trial and sentenced by a judge on Monday.
He will have to serve half of the sentence before he can be considered for parole.
Martinez was charged in the deadly stabbing of Josselin Yamileth, 32, at their apartment in the 4000 block of Galveston Road on May 23, 2018.

A Houston man who slit his own throat after stabbing a woman to death in front of her children in 2018 was sentenced to 60 years in prison this week, officials said Tuesday.
Xavier Alejandro Martinez, 28, was convicted by a jury of murder after a week-long trial and sentenced by a judge Monday to 60 years in prison, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg’s office said in a news release.
Martinez was convicted of killing Josselin Yamileth, 32, at their east Houston apartment in the 4000 block of Galveston Road on May 23, 2018.

37 year old Crystal Reyes is charged with intoxication manslaughter and failure to stop and render aid in connection with the death of a bicyclist on Galveston Road near Ellington Field yesterday. The police say she nearly struck one of the officers as well. She posted $30,000 bond and the family of the victim is especially angry at that judgement. One MEMBER spoke with our TV partner Channel 2. This has been going on time and time again with these criminals. I don t think it s fair to the family who are left behind. And what about justice for him? She was released on such a small amount for bond.

HOUSTON – A family in southeast Houston is grieving after their loved one was hit and killed by a suspected drunk driver Saturday morning.
Hector Mario Saldarriaga, 60, was riding his bike along Galveston Road when police say Crystal Reyes, 37, hit him and left the scene.
“It was a tragedy for all of us. We never expected to lose him that quickly,” Saldarriaga’s brother-in-law, Sergio Sarduy said.
Police say Reyes almost hit another patrol officer as well. That officer pulled Reyes over and determined she had been drinking. She was arrested and posted a $30,000 bond.
