From Thursday till Sunday morning, the Galveston County Sheriff Office made nearly 220 arrests. It s numbers the sheriff they haven t seen in years. This is what we use to deal with back in 95, 96, 97, 98, 99, 2000s says Galveston County Sheriff Henry Trochesset. Prior to Hurricane Ike, this was a normal heavy weekend.
The majority of the arrests were for things like public intoxication and possession. This year the Galveston County Sheriff Office brought in 60 deputies and 15 Texas DPS troopers. It s a strategy that paid off if you ask Sheriff Trochesset. We prepared like we were going to have this weekend, as a matter of fact, the sergeant I was just talking to was glad we had the numbers that we did, Trochesset said. He felt we had just enough personnel to where they were keep order and everybody stayed busy.

Authorities in Texas arrested over 100 people over the weekend during the Go Topless Jeep Weekend on the beaches in Galveston County. Every year thousands of Jeep enthusiasts meet up on Bolivar Peninsula to take the tops off their Jeeps and drive around on the beach.
As of Sunday morning, the police made 151 arrests, with most of the infractions being for public intoxication. Officials said that they nabbed 12 people for drunk driving. The Galveston County Sheriff s Office expected things might get out of control and were prepared to deal with the large crowds that take over a two-mile section of the beach.
