President López Obrador said Tuesday that his government cannot react to the nationwide drought because election silence rules prevent it from doing so, and only after the June 6 elections can it attend to the emergency.
The dissemination of political propaganda is prohibited in the lead-up to an election.
“We are going to help but we are waiting for the electoral silence to pass, because we cannot now carry out any action, even in emergencies,” the president said.

Hundreds of olive growers joined demonstrations in Jaén this week to protest a stopgap measure to fund the agriculture sector until the next Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) comes into force in 2023.
The previous CAP expired at the end of 2020. The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food argues that this new funding will allow for a seamless transition into the next agreement.

The Coordinator of Agricultural Producer and Livestock Organizations (COAG) has submitted a formal complaint to the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF), claiming to have indications of the existence of an alleged fraudulent network set up to avoid the payment of customs duties on agricultural imports from Morocco. In the complaint letter, the COAG asks the OLAF to initiate investigations to verify that the competent authorities, and in particular the Spanish and French governments, are not acting in an irregular manner to the detriment of EU agricultural producers and taxpayers.
