COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (WWBT) - The City of Colonial Heights opened Saturday its emergency shelter as an option for displaced residents.
Colonial Heights Middle School at 500 Conduit Road opened as a shelter at 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 13. The shelter closed on Sunday evening.
The shelter was open to residents who were displaced or needed a place to get warm.

PETERSBURG The system that rained down as much as a half-inch of ice all over the area has finally moved on, but to say it left a mess behind on Valentine s Day is an understatement.
More than 200,000 Dominion Energy customers were without electricity at the height of the ice storm, according to the tracking website poweroutage.us. As of 2 p.m. Sunday. more than 120,000 were still powerless, the site said.
Localities open warming shelters, offer charging stations
Dominion Energy said it could take days for people without power to regain their electricity.

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. With so many residents without power following the severe weather, some localities have designated certain county buildings to serve as temporary warming and power charging stations.

Chesterfield County has designated two libraries to help residents without power. Chesterfield Central (7051 Lucy Corr Boulevard) and North Courthouse Road (325 Courthouse Road) libraries will back open Monday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

RICHMOND, Va. Thousands of people with appointments to get their COVID-19 vaccine Friday or Saturday have had their appointment canceled due to winter weather.

Richmond and Henrico Health District Anyone who can t make it to their COVID-19 vaccine appointment because we canceled OR because they do not want to come out in the snow, will be rescheduled for next week, Richmond and Henrico Health Districts spokesperson Cat Long wrote in an email.

BrightRidge is now providing free high-speed internet service to 28 public Wi-Fi hotspots, including at all 16 of Washington Countyâs schools and three schools in Johnson City.
In addition, a state grant has allowed the utility to provide free Wi-Fi to community centers at the Appalachian Fairgrounds in Gray, Bowmantown Ruritan Club, Limestone Ruritan Club, Leesburg Ruritan Club, Oak Glen Community Center and Telford Ruritan Club.
BrightRidge has also used funds from the grant to provide 10-gigabit fiber optic service to underserved areas of the county. That includes to 243 customers in the Bowmantown community.
The utility is now able to offer a hybrid fiber/wireless service to 50 customers in the Key Mills and Pleasant Valley neighborhoods of Washington County.
